Also have a Yakima rack for the roof and strap it down in two places there. So that makes 4 tiedowns on the canoe. Some people say that is overkill, but I have driven it at highway speeds with 30+ mph gusty crosswinds and it was rock solid.
The Yakima rack goes on and off in minutes.
I've got a Thule roof rack. Same idea. Tied to the rack and at a minimum to the bow / front of truck.
Never mind gusting winds....transport truck on a 2 laner is enough to "launch" a boat off of a roof rack if not properly secured.
