I tie webbing straps under my hood to any solid brace support and pull them out when needed to tie off the canoe.

That would probably work in most cases. But, I have seen hoods where there is not enough clearance between the hood and the fender to even get a strap though. And, A some of hoods these days would get bent by either the strap or the force of the canoe pulling on it while in transport.
