OT: Canoe on the Tow Vehicle

As most of you with newer trucks know.....there isn't much in the front of the pick up trucks in which to tie off a canoe or kayak.

It's all plastic covering structure. And I hate having a strap touch paint.

So with a little 2" x 1/4" flat bar, a torch and a drill....I managed to make up some brackets for my RAM so that while I'm towing I can have either my kayak or canoe on the roof of the TV.
4 screws and they can be removed after the season.

  • Thank you everyone.

Just for the record....Nobette thinks that they "look ugly".

    Function over looks.

    Like her husband. :)
  • OK.... I'll give "this one" to the "RAM" crowd! :B Nice job! :)

(I do love it when folks find creative solutions themselves, then are not afraid to tackle it either).
  • I gave up using front & rear tie-downs years ago. 3/8" nylon rope and a truckers hitch over the front & rear bars works for me.
  • Nice work.
I'm always amazed at the inventive solutions that forum members come up with.
You get the Edison award of the day!

Rope or straps will still hit the hood won't they? Maybe your canoe sits far enough out so that isn't a problem. I guess a guy could use a sponge or rag in between.

Just tell me to shut up and go away, lol.

Maybe REV 1 is in order.

I had those eye bolts in stock....I can always buy and install longer ones.....I'm guessing 8 inchers as opposed to the 6.

    Oh my...porn talk. :)
  • Maybe I should have taken a picture of the whole front end.

I have the "Sport" version. One big a** fairing. I'd have to chew through it and install tow hooks.
  • Looks good! Like westend mentioned, I just ran the straps down to the tow hooks, and used rag fragments to protect everything.
