Tada!!!! Drrrrruuuummmmm rolllll!!!!
Well, I could not stand the suspense any longer, after staring at the floor plan and talking about it for days, so I had to steal some time from my work (self-employed) and run out and take a look!!!
My review:
1.As soon as we stepped in, we were shocked at how low the ceiling was! :E We had been in the FF 214WSD and had not felt this way....but the salesman assured us that this was the height of all TTs. We shook our heads in disbelief!! :h
2. I stepped up to the stove and the range hood was right over the cooktop and so low that I would have difficulty seeing or getting to anything on the back eye. I would not be using this cooktop, but if I set anything electric on there, it would be very difficult to work with. The range hood, the cabinet over it, they all felt like it was right in your face! The MW...it was also a protrusion. In retrospect, I can see that this was a problem because the upper cabinet depth was the same as the counters!! Which really renders the counters useless!! :(
3. The island...which was supposed to be the highlight of the unit...strange. It was much higher than the other counters. Like 42" which is bar height and not a practical height to cut or chop anything if you are under 6'. :R
4. The mattress was too short!! Not standard queen!! Very cramped feeling, with feet hanging off the mattress! :( The salesman assured us that this was standard for TTs. That they do not make residential size mattresses! We scratched our heads again! :h
5. Booth was not all that comfortable. The doors under the booth seats had no pull out trays. :(
6. Decor was awful! Definitely not our colors! :(
7. Bathroom did not have much storage, but we would have lived with it, if everything else had been right. :(
All in all, not a very practical or usable trailer. Strike this one off the list!! So much for trying to stick with Emerald level "green."
He showed us some Apex TT. Same situation. Low ceilings. We felt claustrophobic.
There were two nice things about it....
1. The wood pocket doors to the BR
2. There was no odor!! It did not make me ill at all!!! Hooray!! I feel very encouraged that there are TTs out there that do not make me ill!!
So...we left there, thinking..."Wow...we thought that this was supposed to be very close to the FF 214WSD, except w/o the island...we don't recall feeling shut-in with the ceiling being so low...or the bed feeling so short...or the space feeling so tight..." The FF was the first one that we saw and had really liked with last Saturday.
So, we just drove next door to check out the FF again...this time, to specifically pay attention to the odors and to see if they had any "green" TTs. On our first trip there, they took us in and out of so many TTs that we could not recall which ones smelled and which did not, but the majority of them made me feel ill.
We entered the showroom and into the FF214WSD. Wow...what a difference!! Of course, this was in a showroom with the lights on inside...nice ambience! :C No odor!!!! :) I saw a "certified green" sticker on the TT. We sat inside and what a sense of space that the coachmen did not have! Just a sense of serenity :C ....well...being in an air-conditioned space makes all the difference, too!!! So not fair comparison in that dept, since it was stinking hot today!
My review of the FF 214WSD:
1. The reason that this feels so much more spacious is that it has a barrel ceiling. The center measured I think....6" taller than the CM. What a difference 6" makes!! It gave more of an Airstream feel to the ceiling. :B
2. The bed...it was a residential queen!! No feet hanging off the bed!! :B
3. The kitchen...The counters were deep....the upper cabinets were all the right depths and in the right places...they were all ergonomically well placed and made for a smooth easy workflow. We liked the SS sink and appliances. :B
4. The decor was harmonious...nothing to get excited about, but easy enough to live with, so that we don't have to think about changing out wall papers or the curtains. :)
5. Booth seemed more comfortable and the seats have built in drawers! Yay!! :B
6. Loved the wood-look floors. All the others that we saw today had the vinyl tile look, which is fine, but we prefer the hardwood floor look. :B
7. Much nicer bathroom with lots of great storage! Has a floor to ceiling cabinet in it! :B
8. Larger and more open floor space in LR so that there is no issue of placing an extra chair in it or the tramp. :)
However....we are concerned about the ceiling height of being able to jump in the TT. So.....we are now considering a 5th wheel for the height. BUT...we would really like to stay in the low twenties, so it may not be possible.
All in all, the FF has a much better fit and finish, is a more nicely constructed, and carefully thought out TT. Much more functional and liveable. :B I am really impressed with the overall look of quality and design. As a photographer and artist, I really am sensitive to these types of things.
The new exterior is also so much more beautiful than the CM! :B
If we did not think that we would need more space, this would be our current favorite! so...I just developed a new rating system after using all the smiley icons! Add up the smileys and frowns and you can see the clear winner! Haha! :W
We ran across the street to another dealer and looked at some Jaycos that do not have the famous or infamous "ridgey side walls!" :W
the White Hawk and the Eagle. We ran through a few...but nothing jumped out at us like the FF, although the furniture was quite comfortable. Again...the mattresses were short. So, for now, the winner in this size category is the FF! :B
Here is the floorplan and pics...from an online dealer:

It appears that this will be a continuing saga until we hit THE one!! We still have to go check out the Evergreens when they come to our area in a couple of weeks, but I think that we can ask the important questions, like what is the interior ceiling height and what length is the mattress?
This has been such a fun adventure! So much to learn! I really enjoy the learning phase! :B
