The cure time on epoxy is fairly quick so have everything handy and ready.
I've used this method before with great results.
Epoxy putty is the key, but I'd fill the holes with epoxy putty, let it cure completely, then drill new pilot holes, seal the pilot holes with caulk and remount with new screws.
