I have removed the electric lift to do some repairs due to operator error.
Its not that difficult to remove the roof lift motor. Take close notes of where the bronze blocks are that attach to the lift arms. These blocks must be in that position for the roof to properly lower, don't ask me how I know. Raise the roof as high as it will go. I secured the roof by placing a 2x2 with notches on both ends between the roof bars mounted to the roof one on each side, lower the roof maybe 1/2 inch or so, then removed the lift arms. After the lift arms were removed, remove the upholstery around the lift screw. Then remove the 4 bolts behind the lift screw-three in the under bed storage area and one in the passenger side bin. At this point the lift screw should be loose, give it a pull, it should come out on the screw end. The motor may hang up,use a pry bar to give it room to come out. To install reverse the process. Do some paint touchup-Ace Premium White, some new screw covers and you are good to go. That is how mine is installed yours may be different but the concept is the same. Its important to support the roof and keep track of the locations of the bronze blocks.
The first time it took we awhile, I think I can pull it now in 1 1/2 hours and install in in about the same amount of time. Taking my time and being careful not to break anything.
A replacement motor is available from Happijac for approximately $235 plus shipping. I believe that Happijac will rebuild a motor for much less. We keep an extra just in case.
Good luck!
