Outside rear clamshell kitchen like on teardrop campers

Anyone know of a trailer bigger than a teardrop, maybe in the 16' to 22' range, with an external rear clamshell-style kitchen?
I have no desire to cook inside a small space and really like everything about the teardrops except that they are just too small, with little to no storage.

We had a 2010 Trail-Lite 20' tt... called a tail-gater. We loved it. It had a full inside kitchen and a large outside rear counter, with lots of storage, tv, sink and place for a fridge. We talked about adding the microwave but never did. We traded it in on a KZ with a slide and side outdoor kitchen.

    That is slick!

I have never seen a TT like that. Did you have to special order it?

Thanks! We didn't special order, it was one of Traillite's models in 2010. I think they went out of business after that year. We loved it but decided a walk around bed and a slide were important , so we traded it in on our current 2014 KZ Spree with outdoor side kitchen. Yet, I miss that extra large space and counter top of that rear kitchen.

  • Forest River makes the R-Pod, a 20' with what they call the "Rear Garage" It is a tear drop type space with a "utility" sink. I have seen that used for outdoor cooking. It does not have a stove or refrigerator in the rear garage, but does have a galley inside.

I simply set up an outdoor kitchen on the picnic table and do 90% of my cooking outside. The oven or microwave may get used once in a while.
  • Thanks for the replies. Now I know that I'm not the only one thinking of such a thing.

    flguppie, now that's cool!

+1 that is cool. Never seen a model like that before.

  • The T@B is available with an outdoor kitchen. Maybe still not as large as you're looking for, but at least one can stand up in it.
  • Don't know how big a camper you want to go, but just about every RV manufacturer now makes the models with the outside kitchen, usually a big door that opens up and exposes the kitchen from the door side, not the back. Maybe this is something you can look into.

My Outback has a flip down stove and sink outside. No refrigerator, but that permits all cooking outside. Not the best photo, but you can see the flip down stove-sink under that middle window, right beside the slide out. We love ours. We very seldom, if ever cook inside:

Here's a photo, just one pulled from a random Google Search showing what I'm talking about, the "outdoor kitchen":

  • Haven't ever seen one but have thought about incorporating one on my trailer. It really wouldn't be that difficult to build out a "chuck wagon" style cabinet on the back. It could also serve as storage for genset, firewood, and other camping gear.

It remains an idea only because my trailer pulls so well that I'd hate to destroy the geometry by putting that much weight on the rear.
