over night stop on rez?

....we've often stopped at Teec Nos Pos trading post (to buy stuff) on highway 64 near US 160, and were planning an overnight there once, but decided to head up to Cortez as an afterthought...just ask the nice people at the post if you can stay overnight. Last time we were there was in 2007...

....and I agree with an earlier poster: don't just camp on Navajo land without asking at least the local council...you'll likely be asked to move at some ungodly hour.

....there are also boondocking spots around Bluff, and another trading post (a rough looking white-washed building made from cinder block) a few miles north of Bluff on the 191 (near Hovenweep Rd) where we used to buy supplies back in the early 2000s (we've seen overnighters park there)...but that was a long time ago, and it may have been abandoned by now...

Just going to see where I'm at when I want to stop and take it from there. I've traveled this route so many times that I pretty well know where I'll be. It's just from Kayenta to Cortez on 160 I've never done, I always go thru MV and to Mexican Hat, I know what to expect going that way.Oh by the way jefe, I got a 4 step Little Giant, pretty solid unit.

You think like I do about traveling with the TC. Isn't there a truck stop in Kayenta? Shinney up to some trucks. If not can you just park in front of the restaurant, tourist attraction or gas station getting there late and leaving early? Then there's always in front of the Trading Post in Tuba City. Just keep moving till it looks right. I was excoriated over on the Boondock forum for suggesting this as an alternative way to travel.
My other suggestion is to drive a while into the night and pick a lonely dirt road that you hope will have no over night traffic and just hole up for 6 hours. I've done this over and over again coming across Nevada, Northern Arizona, and Utah. If on an interstate the offramp is called, "Ranch Road Exit". There are many.
Before we purchased the Lance, my son and I were coming back from Moab on hwy. 70 and eventually hwy. 15. We pulled off at a "Ranch Road Exit" with the Dodge flat towing my jeep. Not surprisingly, there were a few 18 wheelers scattered around with engines idling. We plopped our bags on the ground about midnight and it started to rain. Oh no. We quickly got out the two folding lawn chairs and I put all my tools on them so they would hold up a plastic tarp that covered the two of us. It was a short night, as we got up early, packed up and made it down to Cedar City to have breakfast before heading to L.A.
There's always a place to bivouac, sometimes in plain sight, sometimes not. Even your 71 year old eyes will see. (I'm 73, so I can say that)

I've stayed overnight at Muley Point and at the Goosenecks which is a Utah State Park. Both excellent, and very quiet.

At one time you could stay around Valley of the Gods as long as you pulled it a certain distance off the road. Not sure if you still can.

Another place I believe is Muley Point. Near Blanding. It's an outstanding overlook.

Again, not sure about overnighting nowdays.

If you grow up, you'll grow old! Who wants that? :)

Thank's Rob, I'm thinking I'll just go around thru Bluff, It's only half hour longer, I was just trying to save miles. Don't even know how the drive is going to be as I'm wearing a walking boot and crutches due to a dirt bike mishap. You'd think at 71 I'd know better.

On most reservations in NM, CO, and AZ, if you try to stay overnight in other than a campground, the cops will either run you off and/or ticket you. I've been told that several times by people who live near or work on the reservations.

Thanks, Been there and won't work for me, I'm just wanting a stop for the night, no campground. I know the area pretty well. If I have to go up and around I will, then plenty of spots like VOG.
