I have seen guys spray RHINO LINING or similar on that portion of the fender. You can use the 3M Clear Bra in that area if you get it before the chips start. I have that on my Camaro and the stuff is outstanding. Mud flaps on the front certainly help but the trajectory of rocks is usually low enough coming off the front tires that mud flaps are not able to stop the rocks that hit the fenders. I have front mudflaps on my DRW and I still have chips on the fenders. I also run aggressive tires on the front which doesn't help.
