Palomino Backpacker TC's and Ford Short Bed Trucks
Greetings, all!
We experienced 40+ year campers (cabin, houseboat, pop-up trailer, power boat, tent), and we're now looking to purchase a truck camper. There are several Palomino Backpacker soft-side TC's in which we're interested; candidates include the SS-1200 and the SS-1251.
Our pickup is a Ford Super Duty Crew Cab with the short bed (~6'-9, give or take).
Palomino advertises these campers as compatible with 6'-6 truck beds and 8' beds. For short bed applications, a "short bed kit" with enclosed storage lockers is an option. However, there's a three-inch difference in bed- and sidewall length between a 6'-6 bed and a 6'-9 bed.I'd like to push the TC far enough into the bed to rest the front bumpers against the front wall (or close to it).
Here's the question: Does anyone have any experience mounting a similar Palomino TC with the optional SB kit onto a short bed Ford Super Duty truck? Is the fit OK, or is there an interference issue?
Thanks!
