I'm not trying to sound mean with this response. But if you don't understand basic DC voltage/battery configurations, then it is highly likely that you can do serious damage to your electrical system by trying to take on a solar installation by yourself.
There are many possible configurations that your batteries may be configured in. We need to know how many batteries you have, and if they are 12volt batteries or 6 volt batteries. If you're configured with two 6V batteries, they must be in series in order to add up to 12V. If you have two 12V batteries, they must be in parallel in order to stay at 12V.
