Parts required for Dodge diesel - transmission service

Finally found a mechanic who'll drain and replace transmission fluid on my 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel. But I need to supply is replacement fluid, filter and gasket, etc. Does anyone have a listing plus info.i.e.; - the best type of fluid recommended.

just go to the local dodge dealer and get the fluid ,filter, and gasket of yes you can order it all from geno's garage and don't worry about adjusting the bands in the tranny because you can't

They are to be checked and adjusted as necessary each time the trans is serviced.

Does this mechanic know how to adjust the transmissions bands?

As far as best fluid goes you can't go wrong with MOPAR brand fluids/filters from your local Chrysler dealer.

  • I take mine to a local transmission shop. They also do the rear end at the same time. Good price too.
  • When this service came up for my truck, the local Chrysler dealership knocked some cash off to match competition so it was a no brainer for me to take it to them for this service. Doesn't hurt to ask if the dealership is good to deal with: this way you get the right parts the first time.
  • Don't cheap out on fluid, it's synthetic so it's expensive - dont use anything else.
Also make sure the bands get adjusted. Skipping this step will be costly in the end.

    X2

The proper fluid is ATF+4. If undamaged the pan gasket is reusable.
