Perforated Leather on Ram - good thing?

Hi
Anyone have experience with ram's perforated leather seats? - the ones with air conditioning. I found a 2014 1500 with these and am wondering how the holes affect the longevity.
Thanks much.
  • Rented a car a few years back and they upgraded me to a new Caddy with those heated/cooled seats. Driving around in August it was the best thing since sliced bread. I would order that option in a minute, but also agree with other posters, that if my kids were still little I would likely pass on it.
  • A coworker has them in his Camry. I think it is a strange feeling when the air blows through, but that's just my opinion.
  • Thanks. Not sure if teens are cleaner than little ones - guess will see. Wife will kill them if they spill.

I know the perforated leather concept is or at least can be good. I have it in my 2005 Ford escape with no problems. Was more wondering if dodge got it right in the 2014 rams. I heard some older ones had issues.
  • It's not A/C btw it's just a fan to ventilate the seat.

My bud has them in his gmc. He doesn't like it, but he has a young daughter that drops food, like chocolate and the holes get plugged. He then has to clean them.

I have leather that's not perforated in 2 of my dodges. They are the vented seats either though, just heated. But I have 2 boys under 4 yr old. I figured it would be a terrible idea for me at this point. Maybe later in life.
  • Our 8 yr old Ram had perforated leather still looked great when we sold it.
  • Leather seats have been perforated for years. Today it is rare to find anything else. Generally todays leathers hold up quite well given proper maintenance. That means a good cleaning and conditioning several times a year.
