Sorry but that won't work. The software and hardware that comes with the PCM and pickup knows where it came from. It will log changes. Cat did this many, many years ago. To this day they won't give out the codes to the field staff. Once the PCM is disconnected it will log that and the tech will know something is up.
You can change out the PCM but it knows. There is no way around it now. Many, many years ago yes, but not now.
Perhaps, but they also can't prove you made any mods to it. Only that the PCM was not in use for a period of time. PCMs get swapped all the time for various reasons.
Sure, when a tech see's that the PCM has been swapped out 3 or 4 times a years I'm sure he is thinking "wow, this customer must love to change out his PCM just for the fun of it." :S
As far as tuners and diesels go they have no place in this thread. The OP has a gasoline engine, not a diesel. You want more power with a diesel you just throw more fuel and it to make big power. With a gasoline engine you need to pump more air to it to make big power.
The more air you put to a gasoline engine the worse your mileage is going to be because a gasoline engine has to remain in stoichiometry.
