Photo Bucket...

I got an email from Photobucket and they have a change in policy and their plans. Basically if you want to retain 3rd party hosting it will now cost you $399.00 per year. This will have a huge affect on many of the trip reports that we have on this forum including mine.

Is there a solution for this? In 30 days pictures in my trip reports will not be available...HELP!
  • I pay $6/m for my private web site hosting. That includes the site plus mail servers, and other services that I don't use. Other host companies charge less.
Images on my site belong to me, and will never be arbitrarily moved, changed, or deleted. Links to the images, pdfs, and other things, can be used on rv.net and most all other real web sites.
May be too much for some, but it's basically trouble free and worth it to me.
  • Here is a vote for Smugmug. I have been using them for at least ten years, probably longer but I don't keep track. Unlimited storage, great control over your pictures and reasonable pricing. Great support as well if you have a problem.

When I tried this, I reached a fairly small limit really quickly. Like maybe 50 pics. Nobody could explain a detailed explanation (specs or stats) but 1492 said it is simply the nature of the "free" in association with he, or others, as AP style developers.
  • I fought with them for many ,many ,many months about their down loader I was a many year( Paid subscriber) all I ever got was sorry we're working to correct this as soon as possible . this went on until my pre paid ran out do your self favor run away from them !!! do a search for free or REASONABLE priced photo hosting sites like

    fotki link

If you go through the trailer life portal, you can go back about 4 or 5 years and update the links in your trip reports.

That or you can use a place like Smugmug for about $50/year, best control over you photos, but then if you quit paying, your links will break.

On a side note, what I do is if I read a report I really want to reference in the future, I download the webpage complete with pics to my computer. Then it's always with me and the pic links will never get broken.
