Maintain the same gauge of ground wire in the power cord entering and exiting the EMS by just splicing the green wires in the cable together. From the in/out ground wire splice, you could run the same gauge wire to the terminal or smaller but I would go with #14 min. and could be solid wire. Looking at your photo, you only need to connect to one of the terminals on the metal plate
With stranded wires, it's harder to get a really good connection under a wire "nut" connector and the type with a screw on the side is good for this. Pre-twisting the wires together and trimming the ends to the same length is good practice before installing a wire nut. Soldering the wires would be the best in this case, but not necessary.
