Planing on purchasing our first TT

I will be pulling with an F250, and one of my friends has given me a torsion bar hitch set up. We are planning on a used 30-35 ft bunkhouse with at least one SO. Would you have airbags installed on the back of the truck for leveling purposes?

  • Our trailer is about the same size as yours, @9500 loaded and the previous TV was a F250. The WDH got it level enough, @ 1 1/2" drop. I now tow the same trailer with a Ram 2500 4 X 4, same drop. I did add StableLoads, and it picked it up @ 1" and took a tremendous amount of porposing out of the ride.
  • I don't know what the tongue weight of that TT will be for sure without the weight....but I'd imagine a trailer that long will have one somewhere between 1100-1400 lbs.

Unless you're carrying a lot of weight in the bed of your truck I don't think a 3/4 ton would need air bags. As long as you use a good quality WD hitch you should be fine.

We towed our current Jayco Eagle with a 2002 Ford Excursion before we upgraded to our current F350. If you know anything about the Excursion they are basically an F250 with a bit of a softer suspension.

Our 35' Eagle is about 9,000 lbs. loaded with a tongue weight of around 1250 lbs.

We used the Equalizer Brand WD/sway hitch with the Excursion and never had any leveling issues. Remember, air bags don't help your carrying capacity...they just help level things out.
