We just replaced our 20 year old awning in September. This awning has sat rolled up 90% of the time in Southern California sun near the beach most of the time and in the desert several months every year.
It started showing signs of wear and tear about 3 years ago. The fabric was beginning to tear at each end near the channel on the side of the RV. But it lived through some pretty good storms and winds while deployed over the last 3 years. Finally this year in a wind storm it gave up.
I'm guessing a $20 investment in one of these DIY awning covers may have extended the life another 20 years..... I will look in to making some sort of cover.
Thanks to all above and the ideas you've shared.
