A length of canvas, as long as the awning and a foot or so wide, with a wire sewn into the upper edge hooked on one end and bungeed at the other, drapes over the rolled awning nicely.
Mine had been part of a very old jib.
If it blows off, it's just fabric.
Have yet to have ours come off. Like I said earlier I drove five miles at 55 mph and itnever came off. We used the rain gutter for ours and it is stable and has her to come off.
