We have a pop top and I PREFER to have it off the truck...lower to the ground and easier to haul my big ol' butt into.
Also, regarding the AC on a tent comment. We have only used it a couple of times, but if it is raining and you have to zip up the windows pretty nice to have that cool air circulating. The canvas is pretty sturdy and does contain the cool air (and get just as hot as a hard side in the sun!)
