Based on Nick's experiences and recommendations, I too am considering a roof mounted solar panel. I'm not keen on having a smaller portable setup because I've no interest in moving it around all day to follow the sun and as well there is the concern about something like that "walking off."
A roof mounted panel approx double in size (~140W) to compensate for the stationary/flat mounting should give me a set-it-and-forget-it solution that is out of sight from thieves and plenty of power for our modest needs. I have the dual 6V golf cart battery setup (~220A-h) and we travel and camp in the mostly sunny mountain west region.
Looking at the Kyocera 140 watt kit from these guys.

They also have great FAQs as well as a user forum.
Yet to decide on the mounting question as I too, am leery of drilling holes in the roof.
