TEEJAYWHY - I am most definitely not skeptical of any of those success reports. It is an comparison of apple and oranges in my case...
My OFF-ROAD POPUP camper has all the conveniences and modern appliances the big boys have including cassette pottie and shower... My radios all hide out of the way and all operate from a small foot print remote control head and speakers setup. I just have less move around inside space. Well maybe alot less of inside move around space... This forces us to live more on the outside when setup which has it benefits as well.
This is my OFF-ROAD POPUP floorplan

I have indeed thought of going with hard walls but then I start thinking about how much gasoline my truck will use to tow one and all of the hassle of finding large pull outs to stop the beast. I follow my brother-in-law sometimes with his big Montana fifth wheel on a few of these trips and he claims there is nothing better but at the end of the short driving day he is usually one whipped puppy. That can't be too much fun putting up with road hazards and other folks on the road with a big trailer setup.... If I ever did go for something different it would most likely be Truck Camper and a small low profile off-road utility trailer being pulled behind it. I would want to be able to quickly drive out from under the Truck Camper and lower it to the ground so I could use my truck to go places in...
For the two of us we are quite happy with the off-road POPUP which we can still manage to order a BIG MAC from a drive-thru window... What could be better than that haha...
I am also contemplating adding some metal storage slide drawer units like this AUSSIE tralier setup has to my 12-foot box POPUP. My front deck is only used for carrying supplies and items. This would be my off-road war wagon for sure...
