Portable generators question

OK, I'm all set on buying a Honda EU2000i and it's all I need except it won't handle the AC. Now, I go to Sam's Club and see they have a Champion 3500 duel fuel $299.00. I know this is apples to oranges but I want to know the quality of the Champion brand. I mean it is 1/3 cost of the Honda, it is more power and duel fuel. Is Champion as dependable as Honda. Yes, I know it's heaver and a little noisier , but?
  • In my initial posting, I meant the new EU2200i. For a few more days, Northern Tool has a deal of a $200 gift card on purchases over $1000. Their regular price is $999 and I will spend an extra dollar or two to quailfy.
  • You were comparing a Honda inverter generator to a Champion non-inverter? That’s comparing a sweet apple to a dried prune. Both have there place but when camping go inverter.

The new Honda EU2200i will successfully start & run a 13,500 BTU A/C, especially if that A/C is equipped with a Micro-Air Easy Start Soft Starter Kit. Genset forum pundits, most of whom who have never owned a premium Honda or Yamaha genset, will always question the cost and although there are plenty of happy Champ owners remember there is still an equivalency between cost and long term reliability. Your choice. ;)
  • I don't even like my Honda 3000i when it's running.. But, when you gotta run it, you gotta run it..

Just know that if you can hear it, then others can hear it too.

Really comes down to what kind of neighbor you wish to be.

The cheap gens will run your stuff, but I've left my camp site to get away from someone running one of those cheap ones and they were in a different loop!

Anyway, do what you gotta do.. They all provide power in the end.

You may want to look at one of these Harbor Freight genset

Inexpensive but runs well with no issues, I have one. Easiest way to tell a noisemaker is look at it. Noisemakers will not be totally enclosed. Quiet ones will be enclosed.

Easiest way to tell the difference.
  • One at Sam's Club is not an inverter style and runs about 68 dbs. This Champion runs about 59 dbs. And the price shows it.Champion genset

I would not want to be around the Sam's Club genset. I don't even like my own Hondas! Not they are noisy just want to be around quiet when possible.
  • The noise is the real issue. If you have the chance, listen to both of them.
  • Will three Chapions outlast one Honda and run your AC? Hmmm. Not a hard decision IMO.
