Portable waste tank question

I'm considering getting a portable waste tank tote to bring on extended camping trips. I'm looking at the Barker 30 gallon and the Thetford 35 gallon. Both are 2 wheel models and are close to the same price. Looking for comments on which is better. Thanks.

This is why it was our kids job to fill and empty the waste tote. They learned real quick if they want a long shower to go use the campground showers

  • Ive been looking at them too. But no way a 30 gallon.

maybe a 15 gallon the most for me.. If I can get 15 gal out of the 30 gal black tank that will extend days for sure.

Grey im not worried as it matches my fresh water of 50 gallon.

Now the 4 wheel type Im not a fan. I don't know if it will tow well behind a truck on rough roads.

And 15 gal is good for me because you still have to lift it/ tilt it and dont want it too heavy.

Any 30 gal model will weight about 240 ++ lbs when full.. Just too heavy.

Watch this video on the tote and store. Make your own opinion.

  • Go just a little bigger and get the Barker 32 gallon with 4 wheels. Lifting even a 30 gallon on two wheels will be very heavy. On 4 wheels, there's no lifting, only pulling, which you have to do with the 2 wheels only.

I prefer the Barker because they fill from the top and dump from the bottom with an attached hose. The Thetfords have only 1 hose that is used for filling and dumping. I used one once and hated it. Stuff spilled on the ground and was hard to fill up.

FYI, I've been using the same Barker since the year 2000. I got new wheels for it once and when the slide valve started leaking (last year), Barker sent me a brand new replacement valve absolutely free. I think I have towed it a couple thousand miles (literally), from campsite to dump station over it's life time.

Barker wins in my book by a land-slide! Get the 4 wheel version, you will NOT regret it!
  • This is the one we bought. Check local craigslist and you might find a deal. I like it because everything is compact and it has four wheels. Easier to tote and empty...Dennis
