There has been good advice here. It depends what causes your snoring and which device would work for you. I'm overweight (recently lost 35 pounds), I have a large soft palate, I have allergies, and I consume alcohol. My Sleep MD said that my only option is a CPAP, and that dental appliances only work for a few patients with mild apnea. I did use a "as seen on TV" dental appliance while traveling for a month in Africa without reliable power and weight restrictions. It worked reasonable well, and I used an ear-loop surgical mask to help with preserving a bit of moisture.
I'm fortunate that I took well to using the CPAP 7 years ago, and now it helps me get to sleep.
