I leave the fittings on and they do go in the bumper. Never had pin holes or any significant rust. I do remove the hose when I get home and give the bumper and hoses a rinse and a few days of drying before reassembly. I always garage my trailer when not in use and think that the rain causes most of the rust problems.
The fittings on my original Rhino hose fit in my bumper. The new swivel fittings that came on my new Rhino hose do not fit. I installed the fence post with the gutter drawer, and I could not be happier. It fits great, and my threaded adapter fits in there too.
