The 7.3 Liter power stroke engine is nothing short of awesome. I have a 1996 with only 75K miles. Never been used to do nothing but tow anything except two travel trailers, a 29 foot fifth wheel and lately a 32 foot fifth wheel weighing appprox. 10,000 lbs. I have crossed the rockies 5 times in Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and Montana. Crossing the Bighorns of Wyoming and coming down the Beartooth highway (mighty scary ride towing the fifth wheel) with so many hairpin and switchback turns. My truck has no rust and I've never taken it to the road under salted conditions. I am a Ford fan and this one is the best they have ever marketed. Rugged is not the word it is just an amazing engine on the highway. Even though the torque is less than one you find in a new F-250 or 350. The 7.3 can sustain its highest level of torque under heavy load such as pulling my fifth wheel up Powder River Pass across the Big Horns at nearly 10,000 feet.
