Pre- turbo EGT's... what are you seeing?

Primarily looking for Dodge numbers, but let's hear from the Dmax and P-stroke crowd too. Post your temps (preferably pre-turbo temps) and the conditions under which those are achieved (camper on or off, flat terrain/ climbing, etc.) What's the max you ever hit?

We have a good cross-section of TC folks here so I am curious of what we'll see.

  • I went through that with my 98.5 and 2002 Dodges. My 2006 is bone stock and I don't care what the EGT's are anymore. I just run it like the engineer that designed the engine intended :). No more intercooler hoses blowing off, no more watching the EGT and not the road, no more black smoke screens to give diesels a bad (worse) name.
but on the old trucks I used to try to keep it below 1200.
  • Similar to what has been posted, around 1200 - pre Turbo. It has probably spiked higher than that, but I try to keep it under 1200.
Highest has been with the camper, trailer w/ ATV & Jeep inside. Climbing the mountains to & from Moab w/ nearly 24,000 gross weight.
  • mildly tuned 12v cummins superduty here, loaded pulling long hills hard, 1300 or so, I also have an air switch to kill the boost signal to the AFC, so I can kill some fuel if I see the egt's start to go higher.

But for the most part I just take it easy and keep them around 1150 1200
  • Mine easily spikes up above 1200 (pre turbo) on a long grade. When it goes above 1250 I lift a little...but I'm conservative and not in a hurry.
  • I can hit 1300-1400 in a higher tune if I go willy nilly, but I adjust the tune on hills to stay right at 1200-1250 full throttle, which is usually the tow tune. 2001 7.3 Powerstroke.
