Pressure/Leak Test

I see some folks talk about pressure tests like they are very important. What do they really tell you? I mean every RV I ever owned had large holes drilled under ever cabinet for plumbing, wiring and other stuff. Windows are never air tight. You got vent for heating, A/C and several 14" square holes in the ceiling.

Just what is the purpose of a pressure/leak test? I when I mention it to a dealer they look at me like I got two heads.

Did you buy the blower or construct your own?
  • It will find ones that are not a problem and miss some that are. Its not perfect, but its better than not doing it.
  • I do my own every year. It's an easy thing to do and will disclose even a pin hole leak. Yes, there may be through holes in your trailer but the overall volume of air pressurized in the cabin forces the air through any available hole to the outside. Your 14" roof vents are sealed during the test (using my method). Sealtec uses a vent to pull exterior air inward.
  • They are looking for bubbles (leaks) on seams, running lights, around roof intrusions like vents, air conditioner, windows etc.

They are not worried about holes in the floor under cabinets because water doesn't run up hill.

Here is a short video demonstrating the process:...>>>HERE<<<
  • It is the most effective way to locate water leaks. After chasing a leak in my MH for 2 years I took it to a dealer that "knew" what a leak test was and after about 1 hour and $100.00 my problem was located and cured. Best money ever spent.
  • I thought the main purpose of a pressure test was to find roof leaks?
