- AcdiiExplorerI do it when the tank is cold, then switch it to electric to keep warm, but if we need a boost, turn the propane back on.
- DavidPExplorerWe use both all the time. Back to back family of four showers and never run out of HW.
- fla-gypsyExplorerI use both every time we shower
- Old-BiscuitExplorer IIIElectric alone........slowest recovery rate (roughly 6 gal/hr)
Propane alone.........faster recovery rate (roughly 11-13 gal/hr)
Electric & propane....fastest recovery rate (roughly 18-20 gal/hr) - BB_TXNomadWe do it regularly if we expect to need a lot of hot water, or if the weather is cold and the incoming water is cold.
- Boband4ExplorerI have a Suburban, it said right on their website that it is ok to use both. Remember to always have water in it. Electric element will burn out very fast if turned on with no water in it. Also, depending on the campground's shore power, and how much you are using - microwave and/or air conditioner - you might trip a breaker. Turning off electric element on the water heater is a great way to reduce some power consumption and manage your needs.
- DinTulsaExplorerThank you!
- coolbreeze01ExplorerWon't hurt a thing.
- JWRobertsExplorerNo problem. Been doing it for years.
