I have gauges but they only show when you are very low on propane and so what? Well, you then have been warned! All our RV's have always had 2 propane tanks and when one is empty, I simply go out and manually open the other valve and Walla, I have propane again and the problem is solved pronto! Next step is to remove the empty tank ASAP or by the next day and get it refilled. Walla, now I have 2 full tanks! See how that works? Not very hard at all and free!
For the grills at home, I always have 1 or 2 extra filled 20# propane tanks for the grills and simply change the tank which takes maybe about 1 minute and then get the empty tank refilled ASAP and still have all the propane at home ever needed for an impromptu grilling event. Holy cow! another problem avoided and still no gray hair gained or extra wallet thinning having occurred!
Besides, does it really take over 2 minutes to unscrew the propane hose and take a tank out to see how heavy it is our even set it on a bathroom scale to know exactly how much is in it? What did you do with that old scale anyway when a new prettier one was bought? Besides, that's what the filler always does anyway and then fills the tank to the stamped on full weight!
$40, $50, $60, $70 for a tank level reader is a lot of propane that you could have had for the money and you still would have used the same amount needed to refill any or all your PP tanks. Did you really gain anything in reality?
