Hey folks,First post here and I'm looking for help. I have a 2007 Jayco 20ft travel trailer. Before I bought it somebody closed the door while the latch was in place and broke a hole in the bottom of the door.I had a buddy cut me up some checker plate aluminum to cover the front and back door mainly to hide the hole and to make it match the checker plate on the front of the trailer. My question is what glue or installation tips would you folks have for me to attach the thin aluminum to the what seems like plastic covered door.There is foam inside the door I've found out from the 4" hole that is there.Thanks in advance for any input!. I wouldn't use a washer on the front of the rivet where you will see it. Yes some sealant around the hole wouldn't hurt.Bill

There are purpose built automotive adhesives on the market but I haven't used them. Vehicle mfgs use them to attach body panels and interior moldings. 3M is where I go when needing a purpose built adhesive. Their products always stand out as a good choice. I have used their trim adhesive on vehicles for many years and they have always brought a good result.

I wouldn't use a washer on the front of the rivet where you will see it. Yes some sealant around the hole wouldn't hurt.

use a good sealant and rivet it in place.

And BTW, its called diamond plate.

There are a lot of ways to do this job. The way i would do it is to use 3M 5200 which will bond and seal the diamond plate at the same time. Just sand and solvent clean the area to be bonded. Although not required you can install "chicken fasteners" in the corners if you are worried about peeling. From what you described there is no load in that area the plate is to just cover a hole.

I would use 3M molding tape around the perimeter and a strip in the center, then caulk the edges with clear Geocel proflex.
