1 lbs weight loss would equal 1 lbs payload gained with the same suspension. .. however it's not that simple. Ford will have to change the suspension calibration to be within their acceptable limits for ride quality. Losing that much weight would reduce ride quality significantly. That's very important to Ford as many many trucks never haul anything other than passengers. So while you may lose 700lbs, you won't gain 700lbs of payload.
Ford should introduce an adjustable four point suspension like RAM's.
If you have a vehicle's weight ranging from, say, 5000# empty to 7500# loaded, a fixed suspension, especially one tuned to the lower weight, will be really inadequate when loaded.
Already F150s have a pretty mushy ride when loaded, or at least mine does. I suspect their suspension is tuned more to the truck's empty weight.
The Superduty suspensions are probably tuned more to loaded weights already, so there are less issues when loaded, and a rougher ride when not. Seems to me that they too could use an adjustable four point suspension if the range of weights becomes, say, 6000-10,000#. - HannibalExplorer

I meet those kind of people from time to time. Walking, on the bus, in traffic, at the grocery store. I think a lot of people have problems in their lives and it somehow helps them to lash out at random people for perceived attacks against them.
My prius owning neighbor once asked my wife to turn off the car. A coworker was bringing her home and they had been talking for 5 minutes while the car was running. He was very polite in asking and my wife was happy to indulge him.
I never run my truck uselessly but I will if I need heat or AC. I think diesels are different and they may be better off running for a short stop.
What people don't realize is that car pollution is just part of the problem. Airplane travel is much worse and I'd bet that people who own Prii(Prius plural?) travel by plane more than most pickup owners. Also cargo ships are terrible.
The real solution is an incentive. Tax gas and big engines even more. I pay extra on my registration because my engine is above 4L. Make gas really expensive and hybrids and aluminium cars suddenly become cost effective.
No doubt there are a few greenies and far left Obamanoids but most Prius owners I've met or have just seen out in traffic appear to be just average people likely looking to save a little money on gas in spite of the expense of the hybrid option. I bought mine to hedge against the "possibility" of a gas price spike. That and since I work on VF regenerative drives at work, I find them intriguing. No grandiose plans to save the planet. No grass grows under mine either. - Fastfwd75Explorer

Make hybrids and elec cars cheaper and that will entice more people to buy them. Therefor less fuel burned and as the demand goes down so will the price. At least it sounds good:)
I believe we are getting there soon. At least here near Montreal where gas is more expensive then in the US. Hybrids are still a bad choice for most people but calculations are getting closer and closer. Another little price hike on gas plus some lower prices on hybrids and the balance will shift entirely.
I sold my Acura MDX that did 15MPG on premium fuel in the city. Fuel efficient choice would be a small compact but wife did not want to trade MDX for that. So we are getting a Fusion Hybrid. Not cost efficient vs a normal Fusion but much better than the MDX with premium fuel and it makes my wife happy. - Fastfwd75Explorer

Great another way to stick it to the working class! While corporations get tax breaks and relaxed regulations.
The new American way!
Asking politely to reduce pollution just won't work. You need taxes and yearly anti-pollution inspections. It's not even a theory of how it could work. It already works perfectly in Europe.
Drawback of course is that then everything is more expensive since goods are transported. Also what is the benefit of cutting pollution from cars and letting the industry pollute as much as it wants? - goducks10Explorer
