I don't drive with my propane on. For me, that's an added fire risk I don't want to take and with pets (including a parrot) in the house area, I do worry that a leak could harm them before I smelled anything up front with the old-fashioned AC running (aka windows open).
I have gone as long as 4.5 hours with the fridge pre-cooled and not had a problem with things warming up inside (haven't driven longer than that without it on the 12v setting). I do usually have one or two blue ice packs in the freezer to help fill things up and to protect things if something goes wrong.
I have stopped during the drive and gotten out a soda, snack, etc. and not seen any significant warming.
