I never thought about it until it was brought up here. I've always gotten the fridge cold and then driven with the propane off. I only did that cause I smelled propane a couple times when I left the tank on while driving and didn't want to explode. Rather than think about it, I just shut it off for the couple hours I was driving. I've heard that the pilot attempting to light itself while pumping gas COULD cause problems, but how often do you watch the news and see that an RV blew up at a gas station? RARELY, if ever!
In the end though, better to be safe than sorry. I always bring a cooler for cold beer and the Captain stays in the freezer, so whenever we get where we're going...I'm good to go.
