What the dealer is saying is for a LT tire get the same load capacity as your P tire they need 50 psi. Check out a P tire load pressure chart vs a LT load pressure chart.
Many 1/2 ton trucks door post psi is usually 35 psi....so to cover his azz (libility) he can only tell you to use 50 psi.
I use 35 psi in my wifes 1500 chevy crew cab 4x4 truck with LT C tires on the rear and 38 psi in the fronts when empty.
Heh my tire dealer was clueless.
He refused to air up my new LT-E tires past the 35psi on the door jamb.
Each OEM Pirelli P rated tire could support 2403# at max 44 psi.
Each new Michelin LTE rated tire could only support 2110# at 45psi,
but could 3085# at 80psi.
