Protective Tire Covers

Looking for slip-on covers for my rig. 275/70 R18 wheel size, single rear wheel. What I've found are in the UK and Australia -- strange, tnat. Any suggested vendors I should go to for some slip-on covers, to protect them from the sun? Looking for silver to match my truck paint color.

  • I don't know if this is true or not but once someone smarter than I am explained that the molecules of rubber in the tire are being driven "out" towards the surface of the tire more on an automobile by centrifugal force. Tires that are just sitting for extended periods of time are not getting the same "exercise" if you will and because of that the molecules of rubber are more apt to break down which is when you have cracking etc...
  • Cocos,

Tire covers are to protect the tire from sun damage. Tires on your car wear out before the sun has its chance to wear them out sidewall first. so no need for the car. But your RV may not get the miles on it throughout the years but the sun damage will wear at the same pace . Thus covering them may extend the life of the rubber by keeping the solar rays away. Look at some of the SUV type of vehicles rolling around. The ones with the spare tire mounted on the back of the unit exposed to sunlight. Some of the manufacturers have sold the vehicle with a tire cover on them. Not only do they look better covered but they extend the life of that spare tire.
  • We were discussing this the other day. We do not cover the tires on our car and trucks, so why do we need to cover the trailer tires? All tires are in the same sunshine. Does it have something to do with the ply?
