when I put a slide in bed liner in a previous pickup, I just got two pieces of masonite (IIRC) stuck them down with silicone seal, and had the liner put on over them.
I believe at that time the truck mfr. had a warning that the bed warranty was off as far as paint, etc., if you had a liner.
