Pulling a 7500# Travel Trailer

I am looking to buy a TT that is 7500#. I have a 2010 f150 with 5.4liter, 3.55, and 145"WB. I am rated up to 9600#.

I am wondering if this 7500# TT is to much weight to be pulled by my 2010 f-150?

It's easy to add 1000 lbs to the dry weight, even with the water tank empty. I would try it by not using OD and very little water. I would want an extra tranny oil cooler if you decide you can make do with the lack of power long term.
  • If the numbers you are posting are the "dry" weights, my opinion is that it's too much trailer for that truck.
You also have the 3.55 rear end which is not really optimal for towing that heavy.

Loaded and trip ready you will be looking at around 1100 lbs of tongue weight.

Hopefully others will be more positive about this combination.

Is the 7500 the dry weight? If so, forget it with that truck. A trailer that weighs 7500# loaded with gear and ready to camp is okay but not ideal. You're really getting up to 3/4 ton territory. I had a 5.4 F150 and that engine is a bit of a dog. That rear end isn't ideal for towing either. So, don't plan on winning any races. 9600# is a respectable tow number for a 1/2 ton so I'd guess you have a tow package of some sort (but with that rear end maybe not?).
