Pulling Two Trailers

Looking for info about pulling two trailers with a pickup...I have seen many 5th wheeler's pulling two trailers but haven't seen anyone pulling a travel trailer & another trailer..is there a reason why..yea I know all about some states don't allow it..after 43 years of driving an 18 wheeler I know the law.
  • Many states, doubles can only be done when you have a 5th as the FIRST in tow.. And there often IS max length restrictions that you will be subject to.

Most states that do allow you can't do doubles with two bumper pulls..

In some states like PA, towing doubles IS restricted on MANY roads which are not at least four lanes (two lanes each way) which would make it interesting if you strayed off on smaller two lane roads..

Although, I am always puzzled as to why anyone would wish to put themselves through the hassles of doubles.. Just watching truckers pull doubles tires me out with all the bob and weave and swaying back and forth of the trailers..
  • The tongue weight of the real trailer will tend to unload the tongue weight of the front trailer. This can be a difficult balancing act to get everything to track straight. Also, you run into maximum length laws quicker with tow conventional tow trailers. Having the first one a FW reduces overall length while keeping a longer trailer.
