Just adding a datapoint (about half-tons).
I tow a 35 ft Windjammer with my Ram 1500 (5.7L, 3.92 axle, tow-package). I have plenty of power and brakes, but the softer suspension of the half-ton requires a lot more hitch investment.
I tried the Equalizer, but the sway control was inadequate. I tried a typical WDH with two friction sway controllers and it was better, but I still had to be on my toes (so to speak) when semis passed me. (I already owned both hitches for my boats)
I finally bit the bullet and bought a Hensley, and it solved the problem.
For those interested in the numbers:
Truck:
10,150 tow rating
15,100 GCWR
5800 curb weight (CAT scales)
Trailer:
7980 curb weight (CAT scales, full water, no food or luggage)
approx. 900lbs tongue weight (calculated from cat scale axle diffs)
13,780 total weight (truck and trailer)
Thanks pullin2. That's helpful.
