Pulsating brakes

I recently cleaned and freed up the brakes on my TT. Returning from an 800 mile trip. I have pulsing sensation when I roll to a stop.

Does anyone know what causes this and how to fix it?

  • In a recent post I had mentioned that following my last cross country trip I discovered numerous issues with my brakes; three of the four would not grab when I pulled the emergency disconnect switch.

After fixing and adjusting the brakes and resetting the Tekonsha brake controller all was fine. I had about 50 miles on them when I left for TN. 800 miles and rain later they pulsate.

Now that the rain has stopped I will try resetting the controller.
  • Are you sure it is the TT, and not the TV. Could have warped the rotors a little

Is this a factory Ford TBC or is it aftermarket like Prodigy ?

On my F350, the factory TBC is "very smooth" in operation, almost to the point you can't tell it's working.
By comparison, the Prodigy in the Nissan is more abrupt ( especially if set to b2 or b3 ) in initial app, and does as you describe at low speed to stop. Backing it off to b1, and/or dialing down the power smoothes it out.
  • Check the sync setting on your electric brake controller along with the sensitivity setting. If you've readjusted your trailer brakes you also have to reset your settings on the brake controller. Pulsating is generally caused by the sync setting being to high and or the sensitivity setting to high. A simple fix just drive down a side street or parking lot and adjust the sync to +/- till it stops pulsating then again adjust the sensitivity as to how soon the brakes apply and how hard.

Had what sounds to be the same issue with my Coachmen ... dealer tech chamfered the leading edge of the brake pads, the problem was solved completely, and they've remained trouble free since. :)
