I used to spend about 2 weeks with 10 other guys trout fishing in the mountains without any facilities other than pit toilets. We used a small 110V sump pump mounted inside a 5gal plastic bucket. There were 1" holes drilled around the bucket about 2 inches from the bottom. There was fine mesh screen wire riveted on the outside over the holes to prevent debris from getting sucked in. The pump was fitted with a garden hose fitting. We ran a garden hose and a 110v cord from the pump to the campsite, sometimes 50 feet of more. When we needed water we would start the small generator that was at the camp site.
We used turkey fryers to heat the water to wash dishes then add a little bleach.
Those who say not to bathe in the water are not thinking about all of the times people swim in lakes and rivers. What about all of the boaters that play in the water all summer long? Do they really think that people play in the water all day long and never swallow any of the water? I believe that I do almost every time the canoe turns over.
