Try them in the sand a couple of times and you'll experience it. Problem is you can't air them down below 80 pounds.

With my new tires I can drag my 11,000 pound 5ver through the sand quite easily. Even with the 19.5s I could not pull the fiver in sand although it was much easier to disconnect and try plan B.

Never did... I was pro-active and put the 19.5s on quite early. When I saw how much squat and heat the stockers generated I new I had to do something.

I ran the Vision/Toyo setup from 2006 to 2013 with about 60,0000 miles ...... camper loaded. No catastrophes, blowouts or a single flat tire during that time frame. I really enjoyed the stress free relationship that I enjoyed with that set-up.

Once I went to a fiver I sold the Vision rims (tires were worn out) and went back to a stock 3750 E rated tire. The beauty of the stock set up is I can air down in the sand. I had to get towed out of sand 3 or 4 times with the pizza cutters and really couldn't stand the ride when the camper was off or trailer disconnected.

12,400 lbs excluding travelers: Anything else you forgot to add? Fuel in the truck, water in the tank, food in the fridge, the dog you normally bring with you? It all adds up and you might be surprised when you get a rear axle weight. 3750 lbs per tire can get used up quickly.

Your front axle weight will be be 4500-5000 lbs if you have a diesel. That means that your rear is 7500-8000 lbs which is over or very close to the maximum weight ratings of your rims and tires. If truck is gasoline powered, you are definitely over rear wheel capacity.

I weighed my truck a few months ago and it came in at 12,400 excluding travelers, and with 3750 per tire, I should be good. the one thing I do not recall is axel weight, so I'll add that to my "to do" list for the weekend. 12,400 puts me over GRVW, but I'm not as worried about that compared to blow out risk. Having the on-dash pressure alert gives me some level of comfort knowing I'll be forewarned - the pondering will continue.

I didn't mean to imply that DRW rear tires fail more than fronts. The point was that both front and rear tires fail whether it is a DRW or SRW.

You could argue that I should be driving a dually, but show me a dually that is under 20' long in my cab/bed configuration that is not a custom build...

I do realize there are limits to my configuration and we plan to up size truck, camper and trailer starting in the near future. As I upgraded in the past, this will happen with the weakest/smallest component getting replaced and subsequent upgrades happening as funds allow. Luck does play a factor in the research or method I am following.
