Quadra-lift - good, bad, ugly??

Hi
I'm looking to get a jeep grand cherokee - not exactly sure which year yet. I see that starting in 2011 they included Quadra-lift as an option. Is this a good thing for towing a heavier trailer - 6500 lb or so? I remember reading a review of the VW Touareg that specifically looked at its ability to tow. Whoever did the review loved its Air Suspension system and said it really helped it to be more drivable on rough roads when towing a heavy trailer. Would this also be true for the jeep? If it isn't a big plus I would probably look for one without it - I've read that some have had problems with it and in my opinion, especially as I would be looking used, its just something else to break.
Thanks much for your thoughts.

  • Some of them must be meant for towing as they come with a factory towing option as well as the quadra-lift. So far I don't see the benefit over the possible issues.
    Thanks much for your time.
  • Check real closely with the dealer and read the owners manual, as our Chrysler T&C with the air system is not rated to tow, because of the air suspension. We even had problems with the system when we installed a hitch and electric lift for the folks electric wheel chair. Finally had to remove the exterior system and install an inside lift for the chair.
  • I am in a similar situation but am not liking the reliability aspect. Standard springs should do ok..
