Quality of new Arctic Fox TC

I finished the install of my Torklift 30k lb SuperHitch and rear tiedowns yesterday as well as the Timbrens on my 21 Ram 3500 DRW. Installed the front tiedowns last week.
I’ve used Happijack successfully for years on other trucks, but I’m very impressed with the Torklift hitch and tiedowns. These things are Beefy and Solid.
The directions were spot on and the install went very smoothly.
I had to remove the rear bumper to install the hitch. I almost went with the Happijack rear tiedowns that fasten to the bumper but so glad I didn’t.
The rear bumper on a 1ton DRW is almost all plastic and probably didn’t weigh 20 lbs.
I would have destroyed that on the first trip. Time for a Buckstop bumper.
Now, I able to seriously look for a new camper. Unfortunately, the supply isn’t like it used to me.
I want a 9-10’ single slide like a Lance 981 or AF990.
I’m going to look at a 2019 AF990 in like new condition tomorrow.
I’ve read some reviews complaining about delamination issues on AF truck campers.
I think this was on older models and the issue was addressed on the newer ones.
Anyone have a newer AF or know of any issues to be aware of?

  • We bought a brand new 2013 AF811 in 2014 and are very happy with it. No delamination issues. It gets parked outside all the time but we bought an ADCO cover for it 4 years ago for the winters.
  • I also have a 2019 990 that we have had for a little over 3 years. Only had to wait 5 weeks from when I ordered it to when I picked it up. Times have changed a bit yeah? Quality is fine and have had no issues. I have been in Northern Lite's, Bigfoot, Adventure, and Host campers just to pick up any ideas or mods and the 990 is the one to beat for our usage. Having a slide out makes all the difference in the world and never feels like your close quarters. Just an FYI I paid 32k for mine. Didn't get the $4000 Genny and added one for $600 when I got it home. Would purchase again in a heartbeat.
    Good luck in your search.
  • Our 2016 AF 990 is a very nice camper, does everything we want.
  • I guess we got our AF just in time. It was discounted pretty good in early 2019. I started to put a superhitch on my F450 but the Torklift Cannons hit the market and it works fine in my 3" stock hitch.

I have had no issues with my 2018/19 circa AF1140. Its well built and as I have been switching over to a big inverter and lithium batteries, I got to look over the wiring. Wires are well secured and bundled where in some I have seen spaghetti. Put about 20k miles on it so far. Not coming apart anywhere I can see. We do store it in out of the weather.

    Good luck on your search.
