quality question. Wolf creek VS Palomino

Down my way nobody sells truck campers. All I can see is used, or new Palomino. I went and looked at a 8801 today. Sure it was cold, but I saw all I needed.
Looked like a cheep RV the way it was put together. Like the factory couldn't even put the molding on right without screws sticking out because there were not driving home square.

I also like the wolf creek 840, but I have to drive 7 hours just to see one. Ideally I could have it ready so I just run up with the truck to pay for it and pick it up but I want some accessories (side awning). But after what I saw today, I think I need to look at it first.
Hopefully its way above the palomino? I been doing this camper thing all my life (including doing it with parents). I have brand new junk and sort of know what I am looking at.

What is your thoughts on the Wolf Creek?

I am looking for around 2000 lbs dry, hard side, 8'-9'. I want some weight reserve left over so I can tow my 7x14 inclosed (motorcycle) trailer. My Dodge 3500 SRW can tow 16,000 lbs, but if the fuel tank is full I got very little weight carrying ability (and I don't to buy 1000's of dollars worth of new tires and rims just to be over weight if DOT pulls me over.)

I like the northern lite, but I feel some dealers are inflating prices because inventory is just starting to come out again.$40K ain't going to happen.

not sure about the Northstar, it would take some getting used to that cassette toilet.
  • Try YouTube or rvtrader to get a good look at whatever TC you are considering. Just about every TC has a for sale video on YouTube. I was in the same boat, had to drive 10 hours all the way across Alaska to "look" at mine (which I ended up buying). Don't know why but its hard as hell to get a good TC here in Alaska. We've only got 2 dealers I can recall who sell new TC's. I did read that Bigfoot is going to start selling campers up here in the spring tho.
  • Had a palomino and you're right. They're low on quality. Check out Lance. Far better quality and there's enough of them around that you can find a gently used unit for a sizable discount.
  • I highly recommend Outdoor Express. They have a great selection of Lance Truck Campers and travel trailers. And their customer service has been excellent...even after the sale.

We have been to Keystone RV several time looking... Buyer beware. Private message me if you want more info.
  • Keystone RV claims to be an AF dealer but as far as truck campers go you will be lucky to see any solid inventory on their lot. Make sure you call before taking the trip.

I love artic fox, but they only sell slide models, all over my weight class. I will have to check out keystone. my brother and I own a private campground just outside of Chambersburg :).
    PS: W3WJR here :).

Edit: Nothing about wolf creek or even TC's on keystones website.
  • Wolf Creek is make by the same company that makes Arctic Fox, their one of the very best campers out there. I would suspect the Wolf Creek to be pretty good also. I've always hear that Palamino was a very, very low quality manufacturer. The 8' pop-up Palamino I owned sure did prove that out.
Where in SE PA are you? Keystone RV at exit 1 on I81 is a Wolf Creek dealer. Just south of them on I-81 at exit 24 in Falling Waters WV is a great TC dealer, Outdoor Express RV. They have lots of inventory, mostly Lance.
