HMMMM My 98 with nearly 400K has the original dash and is in perfect condition.

Cracking dashboards were a very common problem for the 02-05 Rams. I know because I had one myself. My 02 started to crack within 3 years of owning it. Even though it was a well known and prevalent problem, Dodge never issued a recall. With the 2006 refresh, the dashboards were changed. The dash in my 2008 has never been covered or protected in any way and it has yet to crack. So I guess they got it all figured out eventually.
