Question about faster hitch unhooking

Yeah, pretty sure you'll hurt yourself or break something if you do that. There is sooooooo much pressure on those bars.

I have that hitch and it's taken me a while to find the sweet spot of the right height of the tongue to take the necessary pressure off the bars, but now that I've found it, unhooking isn't too bad. And as another poster said, it only takes a minute or so.

400 bored 40 over with 373 12bolt rear. 200r4 Art Carr tranny. B&M upper and lower tubular control arms. Went with the autometer stainless gauges and replace dthe whole interior. I have way to much into this car lol.

Yeah, love my box nova. SBC, 700R4, CBR front end to include R&P setup. Wifes car actually so I spared no expense. Have Vintage Air setup in the shop as my next project with it.

Not sure if you can use an impact to improve speed of the electric jack. Mines kinda slow too, and I've often wondered if they make one faster. But, at the end of the day, I just take my time and accept it for what it is.

Our friends/fellow campers we go out with quite a bit just bought a 5er, and talk about quick to setup in comparison. Might make me jealous enough to make that plunge in a few years.

1968 I would love to own a Box Nova!

The stock electric jack is just slow on my trailer. I just don't know if I would cause damage if I hooked up a impact driver and turned it manually to get it to move a little quicker.

Unhook it as designed, and as recommended by the manufacturer. It takes what, maybe 1-2 minutes more? Are you in that much of a hurry?

Bad idea!

I have never tried to do that. I would think you could only do that with the hitch designed 'to do that'.

I would think you need to release the torsion bar pressure and by pulling forward releasing the shank from the receiver would cause the head to drop down. I cant imagine trying that with pressure on the system, therefore you would have to release the torsion bars before you attempt that. You are not saving any time because you have to raise and lower the tongue.

In order to re-hitch, you would have to have someone hold the head up while you attempt to back up trying to put the shank into a 2x2 square.
It seems to me you would have to unhitch the assembly to re-install it .



It's easier and safer to hitch and unhitch as the mfg subscribes by lifting the tongue, releasing torsion bar pressure and lifting off the ball.

I think the term shank should actually be called a 'stinger' . I get my "S's mixed up all the time. :)
