170000 miles on my truck and absolutely love the thing. I've had to repair/fix normal wear items but have not had the truck puking parts as per a LOT of the banter about this motor, nor has she been parked at the side of the road with the apparent thousands of other 6.0L trucks that apparently break down every day? Never seen any and I travel the busiest highways in North America every day.
All the diesel trucks take a great of maintenance and work to keep working the way they are suppose to. You do NOT just put fuel and oil in these things and drive them till they stop. Regular maintenance is incredibly important.
Educate yourself on the engine and if you are not handy with a set of wrenches find a good diesel mechanic to help you out. This goes for all diesels including the Cummins and Duramax.
